Disney All Access
Since 2011, the Disney Blu-rays that I have purchased have had an opening teaser trailer about Disney Studio All Access (DSAA), yet it’s never been released. Seriously going on three years now and I’ve heard nothing new about the project. The website for Disney Studio All Access keeps saying coming soon, curious thing is, it no longer calls it Disney Studio All Access. See the website for yourself here. The trailer remains, yet has been edited to remove the Disney Studio All Access title.
The project original code name was “KeyChest”, which according to Wikipedia is Disney’s Video On Demand project. Also, according to Wikipedia, the project was announced in October of 2009. If that’s the case we are now going on five years for this project to be developed. With the closing of Disney Movies Online, I thought that DSAA would soon come online. I was wrong (yes it only happens once in a while). In April of 2012, Disney purchased several domains ( disneyanywhere.com , disneyeverywhere.com , disneymoviecloud.com and a couple more). These domains are all still active and point you back to the main page that still says “Coming Soon”.
I do wonder if this project has been put on hold or scrapped all together. When you purchase a Bluray / DVD / Digital Copy combo pack and enter your Disney Movie Rewards (DMR) code, you unlock the digital copy. You are then able to pick what service you would like to get your digital copy from, VUDU seems to be the big player as every digital copy that I’ve unlocked has offered the title on this service.
It is also curious to note that the Facebook page (found here) hasn’t been updated in over two years. Maybe the project was announced entirely too early and has suffered drawbacks? Who knows, but I wish Disney would at least give us a hint of what’s to come or if the project has been swept under the rug completely.
